Fall’in South

So summer is officially over. I’ve had a lot of fun exploring my city with Shawn this summer, and can definitely say it’s one for the books. With fall coming and the seasons changing, there have been some big changes happening for me too. I’ve left my roots in Vancouver (for now) and I’m making my way back down to the ol’ US of A. Packing is tough when you’re going to 4 different cities in 2 weeks.

In Vancouver, I pretty much know that I’m pullin’ out my fave leather jacket, jeans, and Frye boots (duh), but man, it’s a lot warmer down in the South! I think I’ll have to leave my fall favourites and my staple rain jacket and boots behind.  Might just trade them in for some jean shorts so Shawn and I can go to the ‘honky tonk’ (that’s a thing, right?).

What do all my girls down south wear in the fall? Looks like I’m going to have to go shopping!

PS: Why do birds fly south in the Fall?
Because it’s too far to walk.

This Canadian goose knows what’s up!

The Lip Schtick

I was in the NYC for New York Fashion Week last week, and boy was I ever out of my element. Fashion for days, and so overwhelmed. Still nailing down outfits, but I do have a bit of a staple when it comes to my own ‘Kaitlyn’ style– my lipstick.

Since half the time I don’t know what I’m doing when it comes applying makeup, I asked my makeup-artist pal, Mina, to give me a little tutorial on how to properly apply it so that it lasts (its been quite useful for me these days with all of the running around Shawn and I have been doing!). I’ve been getting a lot of questions about my lipstick shades, so I wanted to share some of my faves with you guys (you can shop the shades below). I wear everything from bright pinks like ‘Candy Yum Yum’ to a more natural nude, like ‘Fashion Pack’ that I’m wearing here.

So here’s the schtick with the stick (get it?):

Frame Game

I’ve made quite the spectacle of myself with my latest fashion obsession (wait for it…). I’m talking about my fave staple piece, glasses (boom!), and recently I’ve been getting a lot of questions from my followers about where I get all of them. I didn’t realize until I went through my Instagram lately… and I tend to be obsessed with frames. Nerdy is in, kids, and if that’s wrong then I don’t wanna be right!

When it comes to choosing frames, I take three factors into account: the shape, the colour and the texture. This seems pretty straight forward, but since as a piece they tend to be the focal point of your look (seems fair since they’re literally in the middle of your face), it’s important to know which frames work for your face shape, and which colours complement your complexion and eye colour.

I’m a big fan of the wayfarer shape, but I’ve been known to dabble with more round shapes (channelling my inner Penny Lane) or even cat-eye shaped frames. When it comes to colours, I love a marbled tortoise look, but I’m not afraid of a solid black or even coloured frame.

The options are endless, and the world is your four-eyed oyster. Try some out for yourself– with school starting again, you’ll fit the part and look bad-a** doing it.

With that said, eye’ll leave you with a little joke:

What do you call a one-eyed dinosaur?

Date Night

One thing I definitely don’t take for granted these days is date night. For what seemed like FOREVER, Shawn and I couldn’t be seen together in public, and even something as simple as grabbing a coffee was an ordeal. Now that we’re free to be seen as a couple, we get really excited over the little things, and honestly, these days just grabbing a nice meal with a good glass of wine is the ideal date for me.

But that’s not to say I don’t like to spice it up a little. It’s safe to say I’m not afraid to think outside the box when it comes to date night activities, so here’s a list of ideas for your next night out:

  • Line Dancing
  • Skydiving
  • Improv night
  • Drive-In Movies
  • Whiskey (aka candy in a cup) paired with a nice meal and a glass of wine
  • Board Game Night – a little tip regarding this one: write truth or dares on your Jenga cubes and this can quickly become a fun night 😉
  • Crash a Wedding or Private Event – one of my fave’s
  • Karaoke
  • Seawall Bike Crawl – safer when you’re patio hopping!

Can’t say I’ve done ‘em all, but I definitely plan to. Looking forward to many more date nights with Shawn…for like…ever.

Accessorizing 101

Lately I’ve been feeling pretty adventurous with my fashion, and my most recent obsession is accessorizing. I like to keep things interesting (ain’t that the truth!), so I’ve been experimenting with different types of accessories, and different ways of pairing them with my outfits. You’d be surprised how versatile one piece can be, and I’ve picked up a few tricks that I wanted to share with you beauts.

First thing I do these days is look for complementing colours to match my accessories to– even the slightest hint of a colour can be paired with, say, a necklace to bring out a different side of that outfit. For example, this jumper i’m wearing has little specs of purple in it, so I paired it with purple glasses.

The next thing I tried out was adding a little detail to the backless aspect of the jumper by turning my necklace around. I think it’s an interesting touch and a different way to add some bling to your look (and we all know I’m not afraid to do different).

I’m also really into head-pieces these days; I think they can look feminine but also edgy, and can pretty much work with any outfit. Go bold with a boho flower pattern piece, or stick to a simple chain link for a more delicate, feminine look– like the piece I picked out for myself seen here.

As for shoes and bags, you guys know what’s up– they’re the statement pieces of any outfit, so try to choose pieces that complement each other, and if all else fails, black is your best friend!

Happy accessorizing!

Cheers to the Freakin’ Weekend!

Cheers to the freakin’ weekend! I don’t know about you guys, but I like to have myself a time when the ‘ol weekend rolls around, and that includes indulging just a bit (not just with wine, though you know that’s on the agenda FOR SURE). It’s been said that I don’t like ice cream, and that was true, but it’s just too hot not to give it a go.

I’ve got to say, it’s pretty delish.

Weekends you can find me at the beach or on a patio somewhere enjoying a nice glass(es) of wine with my friends and my FIANCÉ (can’t get over it).

Weekend vibes are the best vibes, and nothing gets me going more than music, so I’ve put together a little Soundcloud playlist that really gets me fired up for weekend activities. Hope you guys enjoy it!

If you haven’t already, follow me on Snapchat for a little behind the scenes action on my daily activities: snapbackbean.

Fries Before Guys

I’ll tell you one thing, I won’t be wearing this sweater in front of Shawn, but I do love the idea behind it! Who doesn’t love fries…and chocolate…and wine?! We all like to indulge a little (okay, sometimes maybe a little).

Kaitlyn Bristowe wearing Fries before Guys sweater

I think it’s safe to say that I’m a BIT of a jokester, so anytime I have the opportunity to incorporate that into my fashion, I’m going for it.

Shout-out to Brunette is The New Black Clothing for making this sweater, I’ve had a lot of fun with it!

Sick Tunes, Bro

There’s a lot you can take away from my season on the Bachelorette, and one of the most obvious (besides that I’m not afraid of a good cry) would be that I’m a HUGE music person. It’s a major part of who I am and has played a really important role in my life.

Image 1

I started dancing when I was a wee one and nowadays you won’t catch me anywhere without my headphones. I’ve always had a special connection to music. It can change my mood from zero to hero in no time, and has been one of the most powerful ways that I’ve coped at my roughest moments (a lot of those happening in a short time during the Bachelorette).

Image 2

I’m pretty sure everyone knows I love country (like, crazy fangirl), but I’m into all kinds of music, which is why I’ve dedicated a portion of my blog to share my soundcloud playlists with you guys.

Hope you enjoy these sick tunes, I sure do!

Riding the Waves

A lot of people have asked me what I use to wave my hair, and since I’m generally not the best at beauty rituals, I SWEAR by this magical wand because it makes me look like I know what I’m doing.

My go-to, hands-down, is the Bombay Hair 5-in-1 curling wand.

Doesn’t matter what type of hair you have, or how much of it you have, there’s an option for you. It’s got 5 interchangeable barrel options of different sizes that help you achieve different looks. It’s pretty much your one-stop-shop for curly hair heaven.

If you’re like me and humidity makes you look like Mufasa from the Lion King, you’ll be happy to hear that the ceramic barrels are ion infused to eliminate frizz.

It’s also dummy proof and shuts off automatically after 30 minutes for those of us who have to go back into the house 5 times to check if we turned the curler off.

To get the loose-ish waves that you guys have seen on me, I use the 25mm barrel (the middle one). I separate my hair into one inch strands and wrap them around the barrel completely. Since it’s pretty hot (up to 450 degrees F!), I don’t have to hold the strand there for more than 10 seconds before it’s ready to rock and roll, but times and temps will vary based on your hair type. Once I’m done, I brush through the waves with my fingers to create that loose look and BOOM goes the dynamite.

Check out their website for more information, tutorials, and to pick up one of these puppies for yourself.

Happy Curling! (So lame, but I mean it!).

A lot of people have been asking me what I’m doing with all of this free time I have now that I’m not courting 24 of the biggest beauties out there. Well…boating, of course!

Okay fine, that’s not all, but it’s definitely my favourite summer activity, and there’s no better way to do it than in Vancouver.
