My Faves

We’re already a few days into May and I can’t believe it! But that means – Cinco de Mayo! I always like to do something small to celebrate the day. Whether it’s going out for Mexican food with Shawn, turning up some bachata music at home (Tucker loves it), or snackin’ on homemade chips and salsa. What’s not to love?

I usually like to enjoy a good glass of red, but for Cinco de Mayo I spice things up. Here are my favourite cocktail recipes that you can also make at home. ¡Salud!

1. The VOSSgarita

vossgaritaPreviewImage courtesy of VOSS Water

VOSS Water is my go-to choice to stay hydrated. You guys know that I have trouble drinking enough water because the flavour is well kinda boring. BUT VOSS makes flavoured sparkling water which I’m really loving. There’s Lime Mint, Lemon Cucumber and Tangerine Lemongrass. I played around with making a ‘healthier’ version of a Margarita with the Lime Mint sparkling water and it tastes so good! Knowing that it’s not as sugary makes a big difference in my mind. I can still indulge, but not feel guilty for it.

1 ½ ounces tequila (3 parts)
1 ounce triple sec (2 parts) 1/2 ounce lime juice (1 part)
Top up with Lime Mint VOSS Sparkling
Garnish with lime zest
Margarita salt for glass

Pour tequila, triple sec and lime juice into a container. After creating the mixture, chill in fridge.

2. Red Sangrita

Red wine, fruit juice and fresh fruit – traditional Sangria is one of my top favs! It’s perfect for this time of year and always reminds me of summer and barbeques. A fun spin on just a simple glass of red wine 😉

2 bottles red Spanish table wine
1 cup brandy 1/2 cup triple sec
1 cup orange juice 1 cup pomegranate juice
1/2 cup simple syrup, or more to taste (equal parts sugar and water, heated until sugar dissolves, cooled) Orange slices Apple slices Blackberries Pomegranate seeds

Mix all ingredients together and let stand in a tightly sealed container or pitcher for at least 24 hours in the refrigerator before serving.

3. Spicy Margarita

Shake it up with a drink with edge. Muddled jalapeno adds a kick to your cocktail. It’s a nice change from the typically sweet blended margaritas that most people order. I tried this once in a restaurant and love recreating it at home from time to time. If you’re into spicy, give it a shot!

1 1⁄2 oz Tequila Reposado
1 oz Fresh lime juice
1⁄2 oz Triple sec
1⁄2 oz Agave syrup
2 jalapeño coins (seeds removed)

At the bottom of a cocktail shaker, muddle the jalapeño coins with agave syrup. Pour the remaining ingredients into a shaker, fill with ice, and shake until chilled. Strain into a salt-rimmed rocks glass filled with fresh ice. Finally, garnish with a lime wedge.

4. Perfect Paloma

Ahh, the perfect Paloma. It’s refreshing and pairs nicely with spicy Mexican food. So juicy and never disappoints!

1 1/2 shots of reposado tequila (or any good quality blanco)
juice of half a ruby grape fruit
1/2 shot of agave syrup or sugar syrup
about 75ml club soda
a squirt of fresh lime juice (optional)

Mix the grapefruit juice, tequila and sugar syrup until well mixed. Pour over a tall glass filled with ice and top up with soda water. Add a squirt of lime juice and rim the glass with salt.

5. Blackberry Beet Agave Negro

This is such a flavorful cocktail! It’s deep and intriguing and has a hint of sweet earthiness from the beets. It’s a more masculine drink and fun variation on sipping on tequila.

Beet simple syrup
1 heaping cup chopped beets 1 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
For the cocktail
5-6 blackberries
1 ounce (2 tablespoons) fresh lime juice
half a lime, sliced in half
1 ounce (2 tablespoons) beet simple syrup
2 ounces (1/4 cup) reposado tequila
2-3 ice cubes 1.5 ounce (3 tablespoons) chilled club soda
1 lime wedge for garnish
1 blackberry for garnish

Add the blackberries, lime juice, lime slices, and beet simple syrup to a cocktail shaker. Muddle with a muddler or a back of a wooden spoon until the blackberries are smashed and the limes have released their juice and fragrance. Add tequila and ice to the cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously for about 8 seconds. Strain into a glass and add the club soda. Discard the berries and lime. Add more ice if desired and garnish with a lime wedge and a blackberry.

How do you guys celebrate Cinco de Mayo?

Blue Crushin’ on Maui

2017 was a big year for me. Between the launch of my podcast, “Off the Vine” and starring in my first Broadway Show, “Home for the Holidays”, I can easily say that the past 365 days have felt so surreal.

I wanted to start this new year just taking it all in. Looking back on what I’ve already accomplished and setting my sights on new things. What better place to do that than in Hawaii? I like myself a good deal, which is why I’m obsessed with Hopper. It didn’t take long for the right one to come along, so I brought my team down to Maui and it was exactly what we all needed! There’s nothing like planning the next year, poolside with a few piña colada(s).

We arrived at the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort and suddenly everything became about leis, mai tais and sunscreen. It was my first time visiting this property and it was absolutely stunning. I’ll for sure be back! Everyone was so welcoming and our room was stocked with red wine (of course), snacks and cookies. Thank you Andaz for making us feel right at home!

We started off the trip poolside with some drinks and went through a very thorough goal setting workbook that made us dig deep. Nothing was off limits and it felt amazing to share my innermost goals and dreams for this year. I have to be honest, this is something that I never used to prioritize, but after what’s felt like a very successful year, I want to keep climbing higher and pushing myself harder.

That evening, we watched the most stunning sunset on the beach while doing a photoshoot with Flytographer. I seriously get so mesmerized by Hawaiian sunsets. There’s nothing like it! Shout out to Bella Bloom Maui for creating the most stunning Haku Lei for me to wear. I didn’t want to take it off.

While in Hawaii, you have to go to a luau…right? How do they move their hips so fast? That Friday, we went down to the Hyatt in Lahaina and caught the Drums of the Pacific Luau. The food was great and the gin and sodas were flowin’. My girls went up on stage and I managed to stay behind…until the very last part of the show where I got called up to swivel and shake in front of the crowd! Ahh, so close!

On Saturday, we woke up early (and I mean early in vacation time) and did a hike. I always try to mix in a bit of exercise on vacation! We strolled through a little town called Paia, where we had a bite to eat, and ended up at Mama’s Fish House, which I highly recommend, for some seriously strong margaritas! Mama’s knows how to pour a stiff one.

At last – Sunday Funday! It was our most relaxing day in Maui. We went on a long beach stroll and had breakfast on the patio. Then, my Booje girls had to pack for their flight home – and I was off on another adventure. Kauai with Shawn!

There’s something special about the islands. Personally, Hawaii helped me take a step back and appreciate all the good things in my life. There’s magic on Maui.

Sending you guys alohas!

P.S. Shop my vacation looks here! For all you who asked about the Burgundy dress in the pictures above, it’s from Park & Fifth.

I moved away from home when I was 19. I was on a dance scholarship, cheerleading, and living with four people in a one bedroom apartment. We had one bathroom, a tiny kitchen, and a lot of mattresses on the floor. I made it work because I was a dancer trying to find my way, and that’s what dancers do! You struggle in order to achieve success. That’s how all great stories start, no? Mine just played out in a different way than I planned. No dancing, and some TV.

Once I left home, I found myself apartment hopping, job hopping, and soul searching. As long as I was dancing, I was happy. I couldn’t even commit to a bed because I didn’t want to be tied down. My family called me a gypsy soul. I just wanted to dance and be free – and was finding my way in life. I was figuring it out and growing into the “real” Kaitlyn. I’m a “been there, done that” kind of  gal, who has grown into a “I wanna settle down” kind of soul. Even if that means traveling every other day, I want a home base to recharge. Shawn and I have found that.

We were casually home searching, part-time renting, and then randomly found our dream home. Woops!!!

We love Nashville and want to build a family here, but what we didn’t know, was how fast we would find that starting ground. It casually fell into our laps, and we found ourselves in a very large, empty, beautiful  space that we couldn’t wait to decorate. One problem. We aren’t good at decorating.

For $299 per room Decorist matches you with a designer to help design your room virtually no matter who you are or where you live. It was so nice to talk to someone who was always available no matter what. We worked with Decorist Design Director Jessica McCarthy on our living room and dining room design. I didn’t even know I had a style until she brought it out in me. I soon found myself loving every second of the process. Jessica made it so easy and fun to fit our style and vibe.

We really wanted it to have a Nashville feel, so Jessica, Shawn and I teamed up with World Market to make sure we got everything we wanted. Our dining room has the most bad ass vibe with framed rock and roll artists, a whiskey cart, a farm style table and chairs, and some layered make Mongolian sheepskin to make you feel southern and stylish.

Our living room is more for cuddles and comfort. I love a cozy bright space!! My fav is the white sectional couch paired perfectly with the faux chairs and metal coffee tables with glass tops. I really wanted some beautiful light curtains to soften the room, while also secluding us! These ones from World Market are absolutely perfect. The art work and gold lighting fixture bring a bit of edge to the room, and I think the main rug brings it all together. Did I mention they talked me into having an American flag up? Don’t worry we still have other rooms to decorate!!! Cough, Canadian flag, cough…

Last but not least is our little kitchen nook. I really wanted this to be our wind up and wind down space. Since I love to cook, this is where I want Shawn to sit back and enjoy the view. I want it to be the place where we wake up and have our coffee, eat our embarrassingly healthy breakfast, while opening our lap tops and starting our day. Then be the spot where we wind down, have a glass of wine and chat before bed. I love the farm style vibe we have been going for, so the faux cowhide rug seemed appropriateJessica talked me into the antique brass feathered drum pendant shade, which now, is possibly my favorite light fixture. 70’s are back baby!!!

I could go ON AND ON about our new home and how I wake up feeling like a new woman full of comfort and joy, but you can also head to and for more inspiration. I’ll be counting on them for our kitchen next!

The other day I accidentally said ‘y’all’ instead of ‘you guys’ and realized it’s been almost two years since I moved to Nashville! I’ll always be a Canadian girl at heart, but the ol’ South has really grown on me. How could it not? Nashville’s got such an energetic vibe. There’s live music everywhere you go, a happening restaurant scene, and the night life—well, let’s just say there’s a reason they call it Nash Vegas…

Because I travel so much, it’s always a treat to stop and smell the roses (the fried chicken?) here in Nashville and spend time exploring the city. These are a few of the best places I’ve been to so far.

Honky Tonk Central

When in Nashville, you go Honky Tonkin’ (it’s basically a law) and Lower Broadway is packed with watering holes to hit for a drink and a good time. My personal fav? Honky Tonk Central. With three floors, three bars, and three dancefloors—it’s the place to let loose. There’s a live band on every floor, so bring dancing shoes and get ready to HOLLER AND SWALLER!

Husk Nashville

Next level Southern cuisine? Check. Steller service? Check. Cocktails so nice you’ll want to drink them twice (I did)? Double check. I’ve never been a huge food snob, but this place takes the whole ‘fine-dining’ thing to the next level. All of their dishes are fresh takes on Southern classics, and every ingredient is locally sourced. The décor is simple and elegant (the building itself is 147 years old!!) and the servers will make you feel like a real Southern belle.

Country Music Hall of Fame

Is it a tourist trap? Probably. It is still worth a visit? HECK YEAH! The first time I visited the Country Music Hall of Fame, I fan-girled HARD. Was it the life-sized replica of Taylor Swift’s tour bus? Elvis Presley’s gold Cadillac? RCA Studio B where Dolly Frickin’ Parton recorded the vocals for “Jolene?!” I don’t know, but I was star-struck the entire time. Even if you’re not a huge fan of country, this is a must-see. There’s a 52 ft. guitar that doubles as a slide (it’s not just for kids you guys…) and enough interactive exhibits to keep you entertained for hours.

Ascend Amphitheater

It may not be as old and prestigious as the Grand Ole Opry or Ryman Auditorium, but when it comes to outdoor concerts, Ascend Amphitheater is where it’s at. Every seat in the house has a great view (even the lawn seats), and the beer gardens keep the fun flowing. If you catch a concert at sunset, not only do you get a great show, but you get a preemo view of the sun going down over the Nashville skyline (date night anyone???)

Belle Meade Plantation

I’ve never been a huge history buff, but when I heard the tour of this plantation ended with a wine tasting, I was there faster than you could say Greek-Revival architecture. Back in 1807 the plantation was just one tiny log cabin. Now, it’s a 34-acre property with a Victorian mansion, carriage house, horse farm, Boxwood Garden and more. Started from the bottom now we here.  Apparently, lots of people have weddings here, and I can see why. The property is breathtaking, and did I already mention they have a winery?!

Arrington Vineyards

When I want my wine without the pre-happy hour history lesson, I head to Arrington Vineyards. Rolling hills, a private wine loft, some great-tasting grapes—the only thing that could make this vineyard even more amazing would be live music. Oh wait, they have that too (cue angels singing.) Yup, every weekend jazz and bluegrass bands bring the tunes to Arrington Vineyards for ‘Music in the Vines,’ so pack a picnic, grab a bottle of their Antebellum red wine (trust me on this one), get cozy on the lawn in front of the jazz tent and voila! You’ve got yourself a preemo date night.

Pedal Tavern

If you’ve never been to Nashville, Pedal Tavern’s tours are by far the best way to see the city. I mean, a 15 seat bar-on-wheels manned by a hilarious guide beats a walking tour any day of the week. All Pedal Tavern tours are BYOB so stock up on your go-to beverages, grab a few friends, and get ready to hit the open road. The best part? With 15 people, no one notices if you don’t pedal.

There’s so much left to explore, and I’m always looking for new suggestions. Any places I need to check out?

There’s a lot of things I love about summer but shiny, melted makeup isn’t one of them. Nothing’s worse than leaving the house rocking a fresh face, then coming back with smudged mascara.

Luckily, I have a few tricks that keep my makeup looking fab all day long. Hot weather does not have to equal hot mess! Here are the holy grail products I use to beat the heat.

1) Cleanser | When summer rolls around, I like to swap out my cream-based cleanser for something light that can cut through oil and sweat. Philosophy’s Total Matteness totally does the trick (see what I did there?) It absorbs oil and never leaves my skin feeling dry.

2) Moisturizer | Tinted moisturizer is the way to go when I want to get that dewy summer glow. I’ve tried out a few tinted moisturizers in my day, but Laura Mercier’s is by far my favourite! It has just the right amount of coverage and leaves my skin feeling sooo soft when I take it off.

3) Powder | I don’t always use setting powder, but when I do, it’s Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder. Basically every big-time beauty guru recommends this powder and let me tell you…the hype IS REAL! It’s ultra-fine and never clumps.

4) Blotting Paper | A dewy glow is one thing, but when people can see their reflections off my forehead, it’s time to bust out the blotting papers. These ones by Tarte are big-time shine busters, plus they’re infused with green tea extract, which soothes my skin.

5) Highlighter | No matter how much I powder and blot my face, my complexion is always going to be a bit shinier in the summer, so I say, “if you can’t beat em’, join em’!” I like to play up the “dewy” look by dabbing some highlighter on my cheekbones and the bridge of my nose. Milk Makeup’s highlighter in ‘Lit’ is one of my favs. It melts into my skin and has a super natural finish. What can I say? It’s lit (sorry I had to!)

6) Eyeshadow | When it comes to summer eyeshadow, I keep things simple and usually wear just one shade. Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Shadow doesn’t budge, and you can literally apply it with your fingers! Right now I’m OBSESSED with “Beach Bronze”.

7) Mascara | As much as I love the whole “raccoon eye” look, I love when my mascara stays on my lashes even more. Too Faced’s “Better Than Sex” Waterproof Mascara can survive anything— swimming, sweating, patio snacking. It’s almost better than sex.

8) Lip Balm | What can I say? This tinted balm is the BOMB! It makes my lips feel silky smooth and adds a pop of colour to my look. Sugar Nude by Fresh is my go-to.

9) Makeup Setting Spray | When I need my makeup to stay put all day AND all night, this stuff is my go-to. A couple spritzes, and I can go straight from strolls with Doodle at the dog park to Bellinis with my babes. How are you guys keeping your look cool this summer?

I’m in Vancouver for a few days – and there’s nothing quite like summer in Vancity. It feels like there’s a sandy beach everywhere you look, and I’ll definitely be catching a few rays at some of my fav spots (Kits Beach and Spanish Banks are two of my go-tos.) Kits is surrounded by great spots to grab lunch, and patio cocktails, and Spanish Banks is the perfect place to get my Frisbee on. (I’m terrible at it but it’s fun anyways). Obviously, I never show up to the beach unprepared. Snacks, sunscreen, sunnies — you’d think I was packing for a weekend away…

beach-favesAnyways, here are a few beach bag essentials I never leave the house without:

  1. Beach Bag | The most important thing? The bag. I’m in love with this Sun N Sand Straw Tote from Swim Outlet. It’s big enough to fit just about anything, and the twisted handle gives it a beachy, boho vibe.
  2. Beach Towel | Rectangle towels are so last year. This ‘Palm Springs’ Round Beach Towel by The Beach People is gigantic and perfect for lounging in the sun. I dare you not to fall asleep! It’s big enough for two!
  3. Cover Up | This summer I’m loving the boho look, so I couldn’t say no to this Gypsy Crochet Cover up from Nordstrom. It’s super comfy and perfect for slipping on over my swimsuit.
  4. Hat | It’s not summer without a straw hat. This Here We Go Panama Hat from Roxy may keep my face out of the sun, but it has me feelin’ hot!
  5. Sunglasses | If it were acceptable to wear shades inside, I would never take these off. They’re ‘The Hamptons’ sunglasses from EyeBuyDirect and they spice up any outfit. Plus, they look fab with a messy bun. At least thats what I tell myself.
  6. Bikini | Sun’s out buns out! This Hippie Hooray Crochet Bikini from Billabong is the ultimate swimsuit. I love rocking the top with a pair of jean shorts and strappy sandals.
  7. Water Bottle | How cute is this S’well Waikiki water bottle? There is nothing worse than warm water on a smoking hot summer day, and this bottle keeps drinks cold ALL day long. Plus…look at it!
  8. Sandals | It’s pretty rare to find sandals that are cute and comfy, but these Stuart Weitzman Corbata Sandals are both comfy and chic— and have just the right amount of bohemian flare.
  9. Lipstick | I always throw a lipstick in my bag. You never know where the day is going to take you and MAC’s ‘Honey Love’ is perfect for any occasion. Post beach drinks here I come!
  10. Sunscreen | Last but NOT least: sunscreen. I never leave the house without lathering up. I’m against wrinkles, and all for protecting your skin. This Sun Bum Sunscreen is a lifesaver for a sun bum like me. It goes on super smooth, smells nice, and you can wear it in the water.

Anything else I absolutely need in my beach bag? Let me know what you don’t leave your house without!

Adding Edge to Your Spring!

I don’t know about you, but I love a good combat boot in the spring. I know when you hear boots you think about winter, but not me! I try and add a touch of edge to all of my outfits. Whether it be a choker, a chunky belt, a bright lip, sunnies, or a bad ass boot, I like to keep it sassy. So, I decided to give you guys a couple of cute, edgy, easy spring outfit ideas!

One of Shawn’s favorite looks I do (often) is jeans and a tee. I LOVE this basic “Skippy heather grey tee” from paired with One Teaspoon ripped jeans and a simple heel. I also do this same outfit but with their “Cool Girl white jersey knit tee.” I added my go to flannel around the waist because, why not. It’s cool and maybe I’ll get cold later? Got to be prepared with style!

This next one is right up my alley. A crop top. I have dressed this one up for a charity event with dress pants, and in this photo I’ve dressed it down with One Teaspoon jean shorts and a cute black hat. You can’t see, but here’s where I threw in my combat boots. Floral on top and bad ass boots down low. Don’t be afraid to go there!! The top is also from and is called “Smell the Tulips crop top”!

Now, should I have ironed or steamed this next one? Sure, but like I said, I keep it sassy. haha. Ok that’s an excuse, I just don’t iron. Again, I am always gravitating towards a good crop. Now mix that with off the shoulder and lace? SOLD. This is Tobi’s “Haven off shoulder crop”. I love the color as well. I’m a big fan of an olive shade. Since it’s sort of a boho feel, I paired it with my gladiator style sandals. I seriously believe I got these from Payless Shoes. Sounds like something I would do.

I think it’s all about how you put an outfit together. Like I said, a bright lip can spice it up, a booty, accessories, and even a cute bralette! There’s one called “Mojave tent halter” from Tobi, that I put under my body suits. Shows a little knit, and could also be a bathing suit top! Or at least I think so….

What’s your fav spring style? I’m always down for new ideas!

Toodaloo for now!

I know it’s a couple days past Valentine’s Day now…but I’m still reminiscing about the Galentine’s Day party I got to host at Hotel Bel-Air in LA with Wedding Paper Divas and Mindy Weiss. Guys, Mindy Weiss…She has done all Bachelor weddings! She also did Ellen and Portia’s wedding, Ciara and Russell Wilson’s…I could go on, but you should just look her up.

We wanted to celebrate ALL kinds of love at our Galentine’s Day party. Who’s to say it’s just for couples? IT’S NOT. So all you single ladies and gents need to get on board with the new trend of just celebrating all kinds of love on that day. Consider this my heads up for next year. No pity parties and complaining about being single. When I was single, my girlfriends and I would have the BEST night out to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We would pass around a bottle of wine with no glasses (classy), and start what we called the “feel good circle.” You go around the room and everyone tells one person what they love about them. And everyone gets a turn to feel good. When you’re done, let me tell you…YOU FEEL THE LOVE 🙂 Although we didn’t do the feel good circle at our event, with Wedding Paper Divas and Mindy Weiss in charge of the party, the room was full of love down to every creative detail.

Wedding Paper Divas is SO creative and has ideas that can be affordable too! I left feeling inspired. Take a look at these invitations, napkins, and love notes. Adorable!! One love note says, “I love you more than….” and under it I wrote a bold statement. I said wine, and made it for Shawn. That’s love right?? @calligkatrina helped me with the calligraphy so that it looked pretty too.

Everywhere I looked, there was something to inspire the ladies in the room, The pillows and coasters were even speaking my language. Shutterfly nailed it.

They really thought of everything. From a photo booth room with LA Photo Party, that had a balloon theme backdrop done by Balloon celebrations, to a lips and lashes station by Liz Castellanos (@makeupbyliz) for girls to get glammed up!! I actually stole a couple packets of her lashes from her because they were so fabulous. I also had a chance to sit down with caricature artist James Malia so that he could sketch me!! I looked him up after and he’s done everyone from Betty White to Brad Pitt! So he’s kind of a big deal…

I had such an amazing time celebrating love with the gals! I wanna hear about your Galentine’s Day parties!!

Everyone always asks, “What happens after the show when the extravagant dates are over and there are no more helicopters and beaches?” and my response is always this. Shawn and I didn’t get those kinds of dates on the show. Our first date was a group date, which believe it or not, is not romantic. And he was in a diaper sumo wrestling. Our first one on one was kayaking in Texas, and then hanging out by a bonfire (okay fine, it ended with us in a canoe watching the fireworks). And then we went golfing. Those are pretty chill, laid back dates for the show and I’m glad it happened the way it did. We didn’t get caught up in the setting, we got caught up in conversation. We talked real talk, and did real life things. Our vision of life together wasn’t blurred with unrealistic expectations. When it came time to being together off the show ,simple things such as going for dinner, became much more romantic than any of our Bachelorette dates. There were no producers telling us what to talk about, there were no cameras, no pressure, and we could eat the food! HA!

Shawn if you’re reading this, which I’m sure you are because I will probably show you…I love you. Thank you for working through anything and everything with me. Thank you for loving how weird I am, and for still being attracted to me knowing I am Rick. Thank you for working hard and wanting to set up a beautiful life for us. Your soul is attractive to me. The way you light up when you talk about kids (and dogs) gives me all the feels. You’re loyal, funny, smart, romantic, and really friggen attractive. You’re stubborn and I can relate. You’re also very quick to admit when you’re wrong, which I cannot relate to. But you inspire me to try. The way you care for people you love has shown me how trustworthy you are. I remember once asking your sister how it’s possible that you’re THAT good looking, and still a good person. And her response was, “I know he’s my brother but, he really is”. People always ask, “What’s the biggest surprise about Shawn that you have learned after the show?”…and I’ve realized, the thing that has surprised me is that you ARE that good looking with a heart of gold. It’s something you hope for when you get engaged to someone you barely know, haha…But you don’t know until you spend real time with them. And you have surprised me  with just HOW special you are. I can’t believe I found you on a reality tv show, and that I never believed in soulmates. I never knew I had a type until I met you. You are my type. I love you, Shawn B.

I always say this. People paint such pretty pictures on social media, and we have to remember that all relationships need work. We just don’t showcase our imperfections on Instagram. To be honest, I’m not sure people would want to see those things anyways. We aren’t perfect. But we are perfect for each other. Shawn and I work through things, laugh a lot, love hard, and pride ourselves on being quite “normal”. And on days like Valentine’s Day, we choose to REALLY embrace our romantic sides!! (Especially Shawn). When Shawn plans a date, I know I’m in for something more romantic than any Bachelorette date I’ve ever been on. I like to share these things with you guys because i know if you’re reading my blog it’s because you care about us and enjoy my brags. 🙂

I woke up yesterday to breakfast in bed, a foot rub, and a card on my pillow. The card had an itinerary that said 8:30am breakfast in bed, 9-10am a foot rub, and at noon we were going ballroom dancing. Seriously?? I couldn’t stop smiling and I had barely opened my eyes. This is classic Shawn. He is thoughtful, sentimental, and romantic. I got out of bed and he had a lock box out on the counter. He put his phone in it, and gave me the key. He knows I hate when we are on our phones and that was just one more thing he thought of. We took Tucker for a quick walk and headed to the dance studio. Shawn is so much fun, he can laugh at himself and do things that might make him uncomfortable – if it means something to me. We learned the rumba and started on swing! I can’t wait to go back next week. We will be professionals by the time we get married. After that we headed to the movies. I could watch musicals all day, everyday, so he took me to see La La Land. I loved every minute and that was our FIRST time at the movie theatre together. By that time it was dinner, and since we had our dinner date the night before at our favorite restaurant, we made dinner at home and crawled into bed to start a new Netflix series. It was honestly one of my favorite days with Shawn. I didn’t know how he would top his gift last year of getting Canaan Smith to sing our song to us privately while we painted a picture together. But this was just as special. I feel pretty lucky that this is the kind of guy I get to spend the rest of my life with. I never like pretending we are perfect, because we all know that no relationship is. But days like yesterday reassure me that I have found my guy and I will work hard to always be his girl.

And if you’re wondering what I did for him… Nothing. JUST KIDDING. I wrote him a book and made it into a hard cover copy called “Reasons I love Shawn B” with little stick figures of us and rhymes about why I love him. I also made a gift basket that said “I love you with all 5 senses”. Smell, I got him his favorite cologne. Taste – a Starbucks card and his favorite chocolate bar, which I’m sure I will end up eating. Sound – I went old school and got him a Blake Shelton CD. And then a couple personal gifts that you don’t need to know…TEE HEE!! Cant give it ALL away.

Thank you to everyone who constantly supports our relationship and I hope that no matter who you celebrated the day with, or even if you didn’t at all, that you still showed yourself love. Because self love is the most important.
